Splitting methods for Vlasov–Poisson and Vlasov–Maxwell equations

چکیده
A rigorous convergence analysis of the Strang splitting algorithm for Vlasov-type equations in the setting of abstract evolution equations is provided. It is shown that, under suitable assumptions, the convergence is of second order in the time step τ . As an example, it is verified that the Vlasov–Poisson equations in 1+1 dimensions fit into the framework of this analysis. Further, numerical experiments for the latter case are presented.

The notion of B-spline based discrete differential forms is recalled and along with a Finite Element Hodge operator, it is used to design new numerical methods for solving the Vlasov-Poisson equations. متن کاملOn Propagation of Higher Space Regularity for Non-linear Vlasov Equations
This work is concerned with the broad question of propagation of regularity for smooth solutions to non-linear Vlasov equations. For a class of equations (that includes Vlasov-Poisson and relativistic Vlasov-Maxwell), we prove that higher regularity in space is propagated, locally in time, into higher regularity for the moments in velocity of the solution. This in turn can be translated into so...
متن کاملAction principles for the Vlasov equation
Five action principles for the Vlasov-Poisson and Vlasov-Maxwell equations, which differ by the variables incorporated to describe the distribution of particles in phase space, are presented. Three action principles previously known for the Vlasov-Maxwell equations are altered so as to produce the Vlasov-Poisson equation upon variation with respect to only the particle variables, and one action...
متن کاملHamiltonian splitting for the Vlasov-Maxwell equations
— A new splitting is proposed for solving the Vlasov–Maxwell system. This splitting is based on a decomposition of the Hamiltonian of the Vlasov–Maxwell system and allows for the construction of arbitrary high order methods by composition (independent of the specific deterministic method used for the discretization of the phase space). Moreover, we show that for a spectral method in space this ...
متن کاملKinetic Equations with Maxwell Boundary Condition
We prove global stability results of DiPerna-Lions renormalized solutions to the initial boundary value problem for kinetic equations. The (possibly nonlinear) boundary conditions are completely or partially diffuse, which include the so-called Maxwell boundary condition, and we prove that it is realized (it is not relaxed!). The techniques are illustrated with the Fokker-Planck-Boltzmann equat...
